HMB Studios is glass and jewelry studios of Heather Boardman (me!). I create unique, high quality glass beads that will add a splash of sparkle to your jewelry or art project. I am also joined in my home studio by my husband, Harry, who specializes in making Kaloops...you have to see them to believe them! :) All of our beads are kiln annealed (digitally controlled) directly after the beads come out of the flame. I also combine my colorful handmade art glass beads with sterling silver and gold to make bright and fun jewelry.
I have been melting glass and making jewelry for over a decade in Montgomery County, PA. I am inspired by the process of melting glass - achieving unique textures and playing with vivid color.
My journey in making beads all started with the fundamental disk shape. This shape continues to be the main focus of my work as I continue to explore glass as a primary medium. My latest creation is the textured glass disk, which uses my unique patterning technique to add extra sparkle and dimension to each disk. When etching my beads, I tumble the beadies for over four hours to achieve the desired satin-matte effect.
HMB Studios recently moved to the former boiler room of a 1901 cigar factory on Main St in Souderton, PA which Harry and I have been renovating into our home, studios and an art gallery.
This picture on the left is my studio at the very start of construction. One might say that the boiler room was a bit neglected and needed quite a bit of work. But after a couple months of hard work and lots of planning, we have a great studio space that even the dog enjoys hanging out in.
When not playing in his studio or working on the cigar factory construction project, you can find Harry and Crusher at Exhibit B Gallery (105 N Main St, Souderton, PA). If you are a local, please check out the website for the latest hours and stop in and say hello in person. We have a great selection of art, sculpture, furniture, craft, jewelry, and (OF COURSE) beads!
